The other little problem is that up until "quittin' time" he can be sent to a fire. So if I start to prepare dinner about 1 hour before he's off the clock, I risk having a cooked meal and a husband that's gone. Last year, I went to the store to buy hamburger buns and coleslaw for a dinner. And wouldn't you know it, as I'm walking out of the store to my car, my cell phone rings. "Hey, just wanted to let you know that we're being sent to San Bernardino for a large fire. I probably won't be home for my days off (which were the next few days)." AGGHHH just as my gut told me when I was shopping. So I kindly walked over to my neighbor's house and gave them all the fixin's for a hamburger dinner. They were nonetheless grateful and the lady thought it was a bummer for me. So now I wait until about 15 minutes after "quittin' time" to go get the fresh veggies & other stuff. I usually shop about every 2 days, that way I'm not planning for a week and end up having all this food and no husband.
So I leave you with this thought "what shall I fix for dinner??"

I can definetly relate (especially with the food going bad). We have no children as well, so usually I just have to cook for the both of us. My husband was gone for two weeks and is now home for 6 days! :) What shall I fix for dinner?? lol thanks for sharing!
