Honey I'm Home....Leaving
Yesterday I heard there was a large fire north of us and was waiting to get that phone call of "I'm leaving"....but by 6:00pm he called to tell me he was coming home. So I took dinner out of the freezer to defrost (thank goodness for microwaves) since I knew he'd be home in 45 minutes. He called me again (about 40 minutes later) to tell me that he just recieved a phone call from dispatch and they were ordered for the fire. So I slowed my "cooking" stuff down, not knowing if he had to leave last night or first thing this morning. He pulled in the driveway and I could see he was on his cell phone, so I waited inside the house. He came in, put his lunch box down and seemed rushed. After a few phone calls, he decided to have his crew report early (and I mean early) this morning to drive to the fire. He had to be at the station by 4:45am, so his alarm went off, I believe it was around 3:15am. Being the wife that I am (I am not bragging) I got up with him, made his coffee, got his breakfast ready and turned on the TV. I just can't lay in bed while he is getting ready to leave for a fire. He showered, dressed, ate and kissed me good-bye. I am wierd (so I've been told by friends) but I watch him back out of the driveway and drive down the street, when he's leaving for a fire. Usually I can go back to sleep, but not this morning. I said a prayer that God would keep him awake while driving to work and driving to a fire. Then I turned on the scanner..... I heard them 'go inservice to the fire' around 5:50am. Now I was wide awake, because I knew my alarm was set to go off at 6:15am. So needless to say, I am going to eat some lunch and curl up on the couch to get a little ciesta. It's warm here today and our house is nice and cool inside. I'm going to let the dogs (our children) in and they will also nap with me. So if your husband/boyfriend is headed to a fire (they seem to be popping up) I too, will keep their safety in my prayers. I pray for my husband a lot during the year, but I pray more during fire season. Stay safe, cool, and keep checking the blog for more "wife" stories..............Share if you have any!!
