I should have known it. My hubby has been home for awhile and I've been making him some wonderful lunches with fresh veggies. I thought this afternoon I would buy a couple avocados to cut up in his sandwich and to eat with a salad I made. Mind you, these avocados are ripe and ready to be eaten. All joking aside, as I was paying for the groceries, my cell phone rings. Hubby called to tell me they are headed to a fire. I couldn't help but laugh and ask "Are you serious?". I guess sometimes we just never learn, do we. I should have known that if I buy lettuce and fixing and 3 ripe avocados that is a sure way of getting him to leave. So the next few days, I'll be eating salad with avocado............alone!!
I can remember over the years of making dinners, and getting a phone call 5-10 minutes before the end of his day; then feeling sad cause it went to waste. I have however learned that I start making dinner when he calls to tell me he's on the road home. I try to make meals during the summer that I can cook/BBQ in 30 minutes or less. Sometimes we just have to learn tricks of the trade.
Avocado or salad..........anyone????

Thanks for the "tip". I am a wildland firefighter wife, and a good friend (another WFF) and I have a running joke--if you make plans he WILL get a fire. So we try to keep our life as spontaneous as possible. Sometimes it works, other times not, but at least we aren't left feeling frustrated after looking forward to things! Its tough, but with time you adjust.
Sounds so yummy! Take a photo and send it to him so he knows what he is missing. LOl Tammy
