Fire season never ends in So. California, but for the seasonal (temp) fire fighters the season has come to an end. For a crew that on average works 800-1000 hours of Overtime in a Fire Season, this year they made less than 450 hours. Definetly was a slow season. Tomorrow night will be the "end of the season party" that happens each year. It's the last night for the crew to meet for dinner and enjoy an evening together.
My husband is doing a temporary detail as a Battalion Chief on his district. I shared this with my friends at biblestudy. I told them that if he got this temp position he'd be able to bring his "work" truck home the nights he's on call and one man (who has no idea about fire lingo) said "You mean he'll bring the fire truck home?" I had to laugh thinking about this giant fire truck that he thought would be parked in our driveway. So I played it up and said, "If you come over one night, he'll even turn the lights on for you!" Later I explained that it is a pickup truck (w/ lights & siren) that the chief drives. He felt embarassed by making that comment. So at least he'll be able to bring the work truck home and help us save on gas $$.
I hope you are preparing for your hubby/boyfriend to be home more as most of the fire seasons are stopping and slowing down for winter months.
