Hey there, I came across your blog looking for a bit of peace. I just got back home from dropping my new (we've been married 6 months) husband off for his first fire and I'm already having a rough time. I find the smallest things making my heart ache and stomach drop. I've heard the first fire is the hardest on the wives. Any advice for a newbie to make being so 'homesick' easier?

I follow the inciweb on twitter, and sometimes there will be a Facebook page set up for the fire by locals or friends (there is one right now for the fire my husband is on in Oregon thats awesome!). You can also check the incident website and read the latest news. My husband has been gone 2 weeks and has another 2 or so to go-I have only gotten to talk to him twice with the ocasional text message going through due to no cell service. Its hard for sure. We have been together for 8 years and he has been a wildland firefighter the entire time-for me it doesnt necesarily get easier, you just kind of learn to get by on your own. Try to keep busy with projects, family and friends and remeber that your firefighter is thinking about you just as much as you are thinking about them. Best of luck and a big hug-AMG
