Very comforting to hear.....

This afternoon my husband called me and said they were pulling out. The fireline where they were working, had a wind shift and the fire was coming back towards them. He just wanted to let me know that there were reports that a crew was deploying fire shelters. If you know anything about the fire service, you know that they only deploy their shelters in a very dangerous situation. I was very relieved to hear his voice, but immediately prayed for safety for the firefighters who were using their shelters. After reading from some news reports and wildlandfire.com it sounds like the firefighters who deployed their shelters made it out uninjured. What a huge blessing!! You never want to hear that is happening, especially when you know your husband is in that area. But it is very comforting to hear that there were no major injuries. Every wife knows that there could be a phone call, but today mine was from my husband, saying they made it out ALIVE.

God bless all the firefighters out there, especially on that incident. Sounds like the fire behavior is very dangerous.

This is a link to the San Fran Cronicale that is covering the Angora - I've been getting a lot of info from them while worrying about my fiance. He also called me to let me know that his crew was not part of the deployment( Thank GOD) but he knows one of the men who was; a good buddy from the academy. They were injured but picked a coice deployment spot. I wish all of your firefighters (and mine) safety and a little angel to watch over them especially on this incident.

I love my firefighter said...

OK I am just gettin active with this blog so I just read this for the first time today. My husband was part of this strike team that had to deploy their shelters. Nobody on his crew had to deploy their shelters he got his crew in the engine and out of there.
Thank God!
His local BC was great about calling all of the families to let us know they were OK.
But I see in the comment left by my heart belongs to a firefighter that they were injured I did not think they were, are they doing OK now?
I agree that it is nice not to know all of the details that our loved ones job intails. My husband was interviewed by the LA times and when he talked about the burn entrapment I could tell he was on a rush, but he does tell me he was not scared. I guess when you do are trained to do that you just do what you hae to do to keep yourself and your crew safe.
