A fire camp experience.

I'm sorry there haven't been any posts in 10 days. But the posts you are going to read are definetly worth the wait. Due to the lengthy, funny posts, they will be in parts. I will only be able to post in short posts. You'll need to keep checking back for the rest of the story.

I was called by the dispatch center Sunday afternoon about 2:30pm and requested to go to this fire incident. I need to be on the road by 4:00pm. So I frantically ran around my house throwing clothes in a bag, packing all my "goodies" (hairbrush, toothbrush, etc.) and getting last minute things taken care of,. I called my dad to see if he'd take care of our dogs, dropped some defrosted food off for a friend, made some phone calls, threw my bags in my car, filled up with gas; and was getting on the freeway at 4:00 SHARP!! I had no idea where I was going. All I had were some directions given to me on the phone about how to get there. I called another fireman's wife on my cell phone, to share with here where I was going. Well the directions I was given, led me down a dark, desolate, lonely road. I only stopped for a quick bathroom break, quick bite and some gas. About 9:30 my husband called me on my cell phone. Making a long story short, let's just say he was very shocked to hear that I was heading to a firecamp. I actually arrived to the firecamp at 10:00 sharp!! I saw a field of tents, fire engines, crew buggies and outhouses. I went to the trailer to check-in and to my suprise, most of the people had gone to sleep already. The lady who checked me in, was from my area, and knew me. I asked her what my sleeping arrangements were. She looked at me and said "Oh you didn't bring your tent? Did you bring a sleeping bag?" Now I felt a huge knot in my stomach, suddenly I felt like I had this bold sign on my forehead, that said "clueless". Not sure how to reply, I just said "Uhhhhh no. I didn't know I needed one."

STAY TUNED FOR Part 2
