It was like a horror film that night

I live in the San Diego County area. This past week was so surreal, I felt like I needed to wake up. First it started Saturday afternoon when I recieved a phone call from the local Air Attack base. They were asking my status for the weekend, because of the extreme conditions. I told them I was available on my cell phone. I have worked for over 10 years on a Call-When-Needed basis as a Radio Operator/Time Keeper with the firefighting airplanes. So anyways........ Sunday morning we were awaken by a phone call at 3:00am from the Dispatch Center. They were requesting my husband's crew on a fire in Santa Clarita. By the time we got back to sleep.....the winds were making my husband very anxious. The crew wouldn't be available until 9:30am. So off he went out to work, not to return that day. I went to church and nearly was blown over when I got out of my car. The winds were so strong, it was seriously too hard to walk straight. As we started to pray, my cell phone vibrated. I looked at the number and saw it was the Air Attack Base. So I grabbed my things and left. I was ordered to come in for the start of the Harris Fire. The chaos was extreme and the winds were horrific. The Witch Fire started a short time later, and soon we were under zero visibilty. We couldn't see even 400 feet away. The air was very thick with smoke and my eyes were watering like crazy. Then we heard the burnover on the scanner (the injured ff calls). Meanwhile, we are still blowing away under very smokey conditions. It was like a horror film that night as I walked out of the tower to my car. Very eerrieee. Ok. I could seriously make this blog a few pages long. So in short, last week there were armed (M16) military roaming our town. Many law enforcement officers. We ran out of water. They brought in porta-potties and set them up in areas of my town. Our town had been evacuated and it was like a ghost town......very eeerrrriiiieeee.
My husband is on the Poomatcha fire on Palomar Mountain. I'm exhausted. I've worked at the aiport 112hrs since Sunday (10/21/07). Anyways...........I just wanted to post, so you know I'm here still. I have been reading all your comments and such. I've just been too busy to think about what to write.
I'm praying that God will keep all of our husband's/boyfriends/fiancees safe. I guess I thought it was over way too soon.
