Well what's nice about the two days off mandatory R&R is just that, it's mandatory. We packed both days with lots of fun things. Today and tomorrow are his normal days off and we were (although we knew there was a chance he'd leave) hoping for at least another day off together. Wouldn't you know it, early this morning, he gets a phone call from dispatch with a fire order. So he's gone again. To those wives who've been asking if it gets easier when they leave, I can tell you....NO. Even though we knew there was a strong possibility of him leaving, I was trying not to think about it. But when he left the driveway, I felt sad. Sad that he had to leave so soon again. But thankful this morning he let me sleep in while he played with the kiddos. Sad for see you later kisses, but thankful for welcome home hugs. Sad that Daddy has to miss things like first day of school for our son, but thankful for our special family time together celebrating an early birthday for him yesterday.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I find it harder to watch him leave, knowing he won't be home for (more than likely) 2 weeks; compared to getting a phone call while he's at work, that they're leaving. I know it's his job, but gosh this is hard.

It sucks. :( You think you'd get used to it as the season goes one but instead it just gets harder to watch them leave the morning after R&R. Praying for your man's safety and swift return. :)
I feel for you! My husband was gone for 1month and got home late Saturday night we spent his 2 R&R days together doing all kinds of things, but sure enough Tuesday morning he got called to Idaho. I'm sure it will be over 2 weeks before I see him again. This is the 5th year my husband has been doing this job and each time they leave it never gets any easier than the first time. We are here on the home front to keep the day to day life moving along seamlessly!
Yes it's hard my firefighter has been gone for a month mainly Yosemite. They sleep no time for a visit n leave again!
