Firefighters are so sweet to children!!! We live on the firestation compound, where an engine station is shared with a Hotshot Camp and other buildings. Living on the compound is such a great experience, not to mention, when Daddy gets off work (when he's not on a fire) we walk down the road to greet him and walk home as a family. One of the neatest things is that our house is right next door to the volleyball court where you can usually find some firefighters in the afternoon, doing PTs. Even when my husband isn't down there, the engine guys love to visit with our son and let him hang out with them. Our son loves to wear certain things down to visit them. For example, he has this black cape (which actually came from the lady at the beauty shop) which makes him look like Batman. Well today, I look out the door and see one of the firefighter's wearing the black cape!!! A few minutes later, our son runs up to the house and says, "Mom, unlock the door quickly!" So after asking some questions, I find out that he's going to get his big magnifying glass because one of the firefighters lost a pin to his watch. I couldn't help but chuckle at this one. How cool is it that these "big guys" can be so sweet to a little boy. So I walked out there to investigate myself. They were all standing around him, telling him where to look and what to look for. Oh life on the compound is always fun!!! Oh did I mention, they've all give him nicknames!!! When they leave at 1755, they all yell to him to have a good evening, or even just see ya later, Dude. Makes my heart happy to see such great roll models on the compound, who my son can look up to.
I couldn't capture a picture of the firefighter wearing the cape!! |
