Another special day we can't celebrate......
Even though it's not in their control, it seems like firemen are gone a lot of special days. I was smart enough not to marry a fireman during fireseason. So our Anniversary is never missed. He's always home for my birthday, which is in the winter. He's been home for Thanksgiving, Chrismtas and such. But he's never home on his Birthday. My husband has a birthday during the summer, and in 10.5 years, we've spent 2 birthdays together. When he got home last week, he joked and said "oh it looks like I'll be home for my birthday." Of course before the weekend even hit, he was gone again. So it looks like another special day we won't be celebrating together.......

Now I know why I like Jim so much - he is a fellow Leo!!! I just had my ... birthday yesterday. Make sure you tell him that Mrs. Greeno sends him birthday wishes! And I too, was smart enough not to marry during the summer, though it came close a couple of times, even in mid November of us missing our anniversary! Big hugs to you Trish!
Well, our anniversary is in the summer! When I married him, he was not a wildland firefighter, so the summer seemed fine to us. And for our first 7 years we celebrated like normal people. For the last 5 years I have spent all but one anniversary alone :(
I love your comment smokeyswife about "normal people". I know sometimes our lives feel like anything but normal.
I hear ya! My husband has only been on two off forest assignments this year (it has been so slow for him this year) and the first one was on our sons birthday and he left yesterday and will most likely miss mine. I guess that is what we get for having a July baby (he was the best ooopps we have ever had happen to us). I get very fustrated because this year has been slow for my hubby but it never fails if we have anything planned for the evening or for his days off he gets extended those evenings or ends up having to work his days off. If we do not plan anything he is on home on time and he gets his days off. I was joking with him the other night that I think dispatch has our phone tapped.
