No, I'm serious......That's no Turkey!!

I've been laughing and telling my friends, "that's what happens when you're married to a fireman." This year, my husband & I were to host our family for Thanksgiving dinner. For some odd reason, I hadn't gone to the store yet to get the stuff. We were going to go Sunday evening and get it. Thursday afternoon, I heard that my dad had to work (he works for CalFire) because they are worried about the "wind event" coming this week. I asked my husband if he thought he'd have to work, also. He felt certain that he wouldn't because he's only a single resource without his crew. I guess, I had a gut feeling on this one. Friday afternoon (while at his station) my husband called and said "I have bad news, very bad news....." Now that's not what a wife wants to hear, because my heart begins to fear the worst thing ever!! He continues to share with me "My chief called and all Chief Officers have to help cover the district during this week." And now that my husband is a Superintendent/Battalion Chief, that includes him. So, I'm glad we didn't go spend a lot of money on food that would have been wasted. My mom is planning on reading a book at home that day, and I guess I'll find some good movie to watch. I hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving wherever this crazy life takes you!!

I'm also married to a Cal-Fire employee, he's an FAE (engineer). Fire season was once closed up here in Northern CA, but because of the predicted wind this week (up to 15 mph, with dense fog advisories all over the place), another strike team was sent on the 16 hour drive to SoCal to sit around in staging and wait for it to pass. Which means... guess what! Thanksgiving is ruined! So is Christmas- he won't be laid off yet before that so he'll have to work Christmas Day. So when you say hang in there, the season is almost ever, please tell me, WILL THIS SEASON EVER END???

We don't have Thanksgiving over here (UK) but my partner was working Thanksgiving Day and sent me a text telling me about how they had deep fried their turkey...O.o They seemed to have a mellow day though and even though they had been laid off in October they were called back through November. I'm just glad the season ended before December in central CA and he was able to come over for Christmas!
