One of the post comments asked that question: "Do you ever get used to it?"
I know speaking for me, that answer is NO. Even though I know that fire season is here and I know that his job takes him away from home for (what seems like) really long times, I never can prepare myself for that enough. We've been married over 10 years now, and I can honestly say, it is a challenge "sharing him" with the Federal Government. When he's gone: Quiet is too quiet, Watching movies is no fun, and eating alone is sad. I find that having this blog and also having friendships (with other wives) in my husband's agency have been my saving grace. Yes, it is nice to know that no matter how many years you've been "doing this" we are here to support each other. I have said this before, but I'm going to say it again..... I am so happy that many of you have found this blog to be comforting and helpful as we live as WILDLAND FIREFIGHTER WIVES.
I pray for a safe fire season for all of our guys. I also pray that you will enjoy every moment with them when they are home. Life is short!

I have been married to my wlfirefighter since 2005. And every summer since Ive had to spend my summer's alone, too! And Im going on my fourth year with my lil girl and I staying at home alone. Dinner alone isnt fun. The nights get rough on day 5 or so when shes starts to cry for him at night. Ive been following your site for almost 2 yrs now - and I have to say I love it and Im so thankful for your dedication to this site. My hubby is on his first assignment for the season. Hes been available for awhile but has been in the office taking care of paperwk. Sarurday he went out with the hotshot crew to the Quincey fire in Grand Canyn Nat'l Park. Its not very big but the winds have been high and the threat is severe for it to take off. Hes on a Type 1 crew so as soon as they get it under control Im sure he'll be sent home or re-assigned to another local. So this is his first assignment and Im on my second night alone. Let me tell you the 3 sites I check in on religious : inciweb, SWcc site, and your site. Thats what keeps me going. My hubbies in a cell dead zone so I dont know how long before they start letting the men call out on satellite phones. May be til Friday. But I hope they all stay safe and come home to us. Again thanks for creating this sight. Home your water damage from last year fixed well for you. But the way hows that dog of yours? P.S. I like all stories pertaining to anything. Nice to hear stories of other wives and their difficulties adjusting - I feel a kinship with them! Cuz ladies we all go through those moments during fire season when your crying all the time. You miss him. You wear his clothes to bed. You wait anxiously all evening for that 5 min. call - just to hear he's hungry, he hasnt showered, fire blew up and they were stuck on mtn for more than 16 hrs! Yep thats our life and we just have to be supportive. We love em!
